BACH FACTORY on BWV 169 “Gott soll allein mein Herze haben”

The “Bach Factory” is a video series by the J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen that gives you interesting insights into Bach’s cantatas – including exclusive excerpts from their live performance.

In this episode of Bach Factory, Xoán Castiñeira and Rudolf Lutz guide us through J.S. Bach’s cantata BWV 169 “Gott soll allein mein Herze haben”. The opening sinfonia sounds like an organ concerto and makes up 1/3 of the entire cantata. So is the cantata an homage to the organ? How did Bach construct this part of the cantata, and which attitude toward instrumental sonority does he express in this piece? Rudolf and Xoán uncover the cantata’s musical secrets.

The concert recording, introductory workshop and reflective lecture (in German) are available at Bachipedia.
