Rudolf Lutz – improvisation on “desert wandering”, “shimmer of hope” and “new world”

Rudolf Lutz improvises at the piano

In 2020, Covid-19 regulations prevented us from performing cantata BWV 4 “Christ lag in Todesbanden” (Christ lay to death in bondage). In place of the regular concert, Rudolf Lutz demonstrated on the organ how parts of the cantata can also be interpreted as chorale preludes. We were proud to stream the programme worldwide.
As a preview of Rudolf Lutz’s improvisational skills, you can see him here at the piano. His son Samuel Lutz (who produced the video) asked him to improvise on the themes of “desert wandering”, “shimmer of hope” and “new world”.
The video of the streaming event is available
