Performance of “Bach bewegt” (Bach moves) – Royston Maldoom

Renowned dance pedagogue Royston Maldoom is literally setting Bach’s music in motion – in a unique dance project with students from the SBW Haus des Lernens (SBW house of learning). For young people, movement is the simplest and most natural way to experience Bach’s music, especially for those who don’t play an instrument.

J. S. Bach has always moved us – literally

The music for “Bach bewegt” features excerpts from Bach’s oeuvre linked by improvisations and is performed at the keyboard by Rudolf Lutz, artistic director of the J. S. Bach Foundation.

Royston Maldoom, recipient of numerous prizes for his artistic work, trained with around 25 students in the Swiss town of Teufen. In the voluntary project, the students worked intensively for ten days to develop a programme that they performed on 18 and 20 August at the “Appenzeller Bachtage” festival in Teufen. Maldoom travels the world, teaching young people through dance about the importance of passion and determination – as is prominently seen in “Rhythm is it!”, an award-winning documentary of his stage production of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring with 250 Berlin students and the Berlin Philharmonic.
